Bengal assembly's winter session to start on Nov 25; Uproar over RG Kar on cards

West Bengal Assembly's winter session will begin on November 25. The state government is likely to face opposition on several burning matters, including the RG Kar incident. As per reports, the ruling party Trinamool plans to focus on development and reform achievements in the health, minority development, and land and land reforms departments, aiming to counter persistent opposition attacks with factual data.

The health department has faced scrutiny, especially after the RG Kar Medical College controversies. The government plans to highlight its statewide healthcare initiatives and reforms over the past decade to address criticism. Similarly, in the face of BJP’s claims of minority appeasement, the minority development department will present data to underline its neutral and development-oriented approach.

On the other hand, TMC may introduce censure motions accusing the central government of depriving the state of funds for housing schemes and the 100-day rural work program. The controversial Waqf Bill brought by the central government is also expected to be a key point of debate, with a potential censure motion addressing it.

November 26, observed as Constitution Day, will see a special assembly session dedicated to honoring the Constitution, marking a significant start to the winter session's main proceedings. Experts believe that through these strategies, the ruling party is not only preparing for the immediate opposition challenges but also setting the stage for the 2026 assembly elections.
